Shawshank Tree Falls Over
What was left of the famous oak tree from “The Shawshank Redemption” has fallen. Staff at the Mansfield/Richland County Convention and Visitors Bureau said they received a call Friday afternoon informing them the entire tree was down. See the video and article here....
Famous Shawshank Redemption Tree Near Mansfield Knocked Over By Wind
The famous Shawshank tree, a symbol of hope and a popular pilgrimage site for fans of “The Shawshank Redemption,” was knocked down by high winds Friday afternoon. Jodie Snavely, group tour manager for the Mansfield and Richland County Convention and Visitors Bureau, went out to see the downed tree for herself, after her office got a call from a man who said he saw the historic oak fall. “Sure enough it was down,” she said. “People are going to be heartbroken. It’s extremely sad.” The tree, which Snavely said could be as many as 200 years old, is an iconic symbol in the 1994 film. It’s where Andy Dufresne (Tim Robbins), wrongly accused of murder, buries the directions that help guide friend and former prison-mate Red (Morgan Freeman) to his new home....
Wine & Ale Trail Adds New Location
Mid-Summer is here and it’s time to take stock in the things you still want to do before summer slips by. CVB Member Spotlight on Gorman Nature Center
Gorman Nature Center aims to “introduce and interpret our region’s natural heritage to the citizens of Richland County.” As a part of the Richland County Parks District, Gorman Nature Center is providing an educational platform to audiences of all ages. Events take place on a weekly basis and cover fields of science from astrology to geology, through these events the Naturalists at Gorman are garnering interests in preservation, conservation and enjoyment of natural heritage....

CVB Internships Prepare Students for Real World – Meet Our Summer Interns
Bring on the interns! Thanks to some amazing college internship programs, the Mansfield/Richland County Convention & Visitors Bureau engages with students throughout the year. The start of summer semester brings a new group of student interns. “We have mentored over 54 students in the past 8 years,” said Amber Dobbins, CVB Operations/Membership Director. “We don’t just assign them projects, but they get real-world experience along with the mentorship to help them learn basics things like appropriate attire and interaction in a work setting, computer program shortcuts and tricks to make them more efficient, and even resume tips from the employer’s viewpoint. All critical knowledge for today’s competitive workforce,” Dobbins said.

As the Operations/Member Services Director for the Mansfield/Richland County Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB), I have had the privilege to supervise and mentor over 50 students throughout the past eight of my nine years at the CVB. It is truly rewarding not only for myself, but I believe that an Internship/Mentorship program can be a win-win-win for all parties involved. Not only do students get the experience needed in today’s competitive work force, but our staff is able to maximize productivity and daily office functions.
