MANSFIELD, OHIO – Were you an extra on the set of The Shawshank Redemption? Did the producers rent your house, your car? Did you bump into one of the stars around town or have a cool story from behind the scenes? We’d love to hear them. If this sound like you, the Mansfield/Richland County Convention & Visitor’s Bureau (CVB) needs your help! The CVB launched a Facebook page) where fans of the movie can go to share memories, inside stories, “Did you know…” moments, etc… The page also calls attention to the Shawshank Trail, a drive-it-yourself tour where fans of the movie can visit filming sites around Mansfield, Ashland and Upper Sandusky.

“Creating the place where movie fans near and far could go to share experiences was one of the goals of launching the page”, according to Jodie Puster, Group Tour and Media Director for the Bureau. “The other was to call attention to the Shawshank Trail. It’s all about the experience! We developed the Trail to help fans put themselves in the places where their favorite scenes took place and characters actually stood. Utilizing Facebook to reach out to the movie’s legions of fans was a perfect mix of marketing and building a community of those with a shared experience.”  Added Puster, “It’s really fun to learn more about what went on when the cameras weren’t rolling.”

You Can Be a Star
Launching the page was a nice start, but to help make the page the ultimate in great Shawshank stories, the Bureau is looking for interesting stories, photos, and behind the scenes information from local people who were either extras, involved in production, or just simply participated in any way in the making of The Shawshank Redemption.

The Shawshank Trail, created by the CVB, allows its participants to experience the sights and sounds where the classic movie, The Shawshank Redemption was filmed. It’s an easy way to find and explore all 13 sites where the movie was filmed at your own pace, start where you want and end where you want, it’s up to you. Navigate your way around Mansfield and the surrounding areas, visiting the same sites as Hollywood once did.
So if you were a part of the movie and want to become a part of this exciting new dedication to an iconic Ohio movie that has become a classic for all movie watchers, go to ShawshankTrail.com or log on to Facebook.com and search for Shawshank Trail.
