March Happenings and Events

With pleasant temperatures on the rise, the activities in the area are full of spring. View March Happenings & Events in Mansfield as we plant a seed for fun things to do!

A few things to look forward to this month include extra hours every Thursday evening at Kingwood Center Gardens (Mar. 2, 9, 16, 23, 30),  First Fridays at the Buckeye Imagination Museum (Mar. 3), First Friday Live Downtown Mansfield (Mar. 3), the much anticipated annual Maple Syrup Festival (Mar. 3 & 4, 11 & 12) at Malabar Farm State Park, the Mid-Ohio Home Show (Mar.11, 12) and Ghost Walks!

Local Shopping & Holiday Events 

Did you know Downtown Mansfield has boutique shops and delicious restaurants to enjoy? Spend a day thrifting at What Goes ‘Round Thrift Store or browsing Carousel Antiques Ltd before you grab a beverage at Relax, It’s Just Coffee or enjoy lunch at Uncle John’s Place. Shop the Smith Hardware & Rustik Market Spring Open House (Mar. 3) and refresh your home with some new decor.

The Local @ 97, City Grille & Bar, Warehouse Tavern all host fun St. Patrick’s Day festivities on Mar. 17.  Families can paint a Lucky Shamrock Painting at North Lake Park. Free for the first 40 people to sign up.

Visit the Richland County Dog Warden’s Office for the Annual Easter Egg Hunt on March 25th. Get a free professional photo with the Easter Bunny with a donation to the shelter. RSVP is required.

So Many Classes

The Mansfield Art Center offers a variety of classes for all ages that include drawing, tufting, stained glass tutorials and more. This month you can learn the art of stained glass in a Beginner class to make adorable baby plants, Tuft your Pet (March 2, 3) in this fun tufting class, learn the fundamentals of ceramics with this throwing class.

Take a Bunny Felting Class at Alpaca Meadows (Mar. 25). Geared towards all skill levels, students can design their own bunny and make accessories as time allows.

Kingwood Center offers a variety of classes. Tour the display greenhouse (Mar. 9) to learn about the plants propagated on the grounds or take a rose pruning class (Mar. 14).

Take a fresh look at the outdoors in this Nature Doodling Class for Adults (Mar. 25) hosted at Malabar Farm State Park.

Aspiring outdoorsmen will enjoy a two-day, 12-hour instructor-led Hunter Education Course at Pleasant Hill Lake Park (Mar. 25 & 26).

Get Moving!

An evening at Axe Social Lounge is a fun way to make memories with your family and friends. Reserve a lane, invite your friends, and learn all about ax throwing.

Exercise Your Brain

The Phoenix Brewing Company offers its monthly round of Taproom Trivia (Mar. 21) for those who want to stay sharp during the winter.

Theater, Art & Live Music

We have a lot of theatrical presentations for you this month starting with The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Mar. 2, 3, 4, 5) at the Ohio State University At Mansfield Theatre and Stage. Enjoy this fast-paced presentation of all 37 abridged plays in 97 minutes!

Something Rotten! at the Renaissance Theatre (Mar. 4, 5, 11, 12) is a hilarious musical set in the 1590s with brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom who are desperate to step out of the shadow of legend William Shakespeare to write the world’s first musical.

Radio TBS (Trailer Park Broadcasting Scandals) at Mansfield Playhouse (Mar. 10, 11, 17, 18, 19) follows radio hostesses and society doyennes Vesta Poteet and Dixie Mandress to the jumpin’ Luna Del Mar Manufactured Home Oasis and Monkey Empire where there’s a visit to Graceland, an unfortunate arrest and Miss Manatee contest and more.

Mansfield Symphony Orchestra and Chorus join forces with local choirs to present Orff’s choral masterpiece, Carmina Burana (Mar. 18).

Enjoy the big band jazz of Kings of Swing (Mar. 25), Mansfield’s premiere jazz orchestra, on the Renaissance stage.

Visit Mansfield Art Center to view Battle Scars, the New Protagonist by Leigh Brooklyn (starts Mar. 22). This exhibit tackles current events with a focus on representing strong women through capacious oil paintings, drawings, and sculptures.

Artapolooza (Mar. 24-29) at Mid-Ohio displays over 500 student artworks from area public and non-public schools making it one of the largest student art displays in the area.

You’ll find opportunities to sip a glass of wine or enjoy a cold brew while listening to Just Jazz Live at Hudson & Essex (Mar. 4)  and The Happy Grape Bar and Bistro (Mar. 17,31). The Oolong Gurus will make an appearance at 1285 Winery (Mar. 10), Milo’s Music will be at the Fox Winery (Mar. 18) and The Phoenix Brewing Company will provide live music every Friday and Saturday night through the month of March.

Abe Partridge will kick off the Sunday Songwriter Series in The Spirit Room (Mar. 19). Seating is limited and an advance ticket purchase is required.

Fun for the Family

We have plenty of fun activities for the family at the Buckeye Imagination Museum, Kingwood Center, and Ohio Bird Sanctuary.

Visit Kingwood Center on the First Monday (Mar. 6)  of the month for free admission. Little ones will enjoy the Peacock Playhouse, Storybook Trail, feeding the ducks and searching for the resident peacocks.

Visiting the resident birds at the Ohio Bird Sanctuary is a treat and this month, families have the opportunity to Build a Blue Bird Box (Mar. 18).
