Cheers To You

By Tonya Prater

Raise a glass for the “Cheers to History” theme along the regional Wine and Ale Trail. Winding through Mansfield and the surrounding communities, the trail offers numerous iconic settings to celebrate history while sipping the finest local wine and craft beer.

1285 Winery At The Blueberry Patch

Savor wood-fired pizza with the signature blueberry wine indoors or out at this farm, restaurant and winery situated on a sprawling blueberry plantation. Try a glass of the Solitary White wine, a nod to the area’s Shawshank Trail.

Cypress Hill Winery

Housed in a former 1920s Hudson and Essex car dealership built on the site of Prohibition-era caverns, this boutique winery rests on decades of history. Enjoy flavors of California varietal wines in downtown Mansfield.

The Phoenix Brewing Company

Sample local craft beer served on a wooden coffin tasting tray in this century-old building, which once served as a mortuary in the heart of downtown Mansfield. For those seeking something stronger, head to The Spirit Room upstairs.

Uniontown Brewing Co.

The pre-Civil War era property in Ashland once served as Gilbert Furniture store and now serves excellent food and beer brewed in-house. Try a pint of 1850 Stout, one of the flagship brews.

The Vault Wine Bar

Built in 1911, the magnificent architecture of the Citizens Bank of Shelby is now home to The Vault Wine Bar. Step inside the actual vault to select a wine for sipping! Try both local varietals and wines from around the world, along with mouth-watering appetizers.

Wishmaker House Winery & Wine Bar

A restaurant, winery and eight-room bed and breakfast all in one. But that’s not all — Wishmaker also produces award- winning house wines in a beautiful 1890s facility on Bellville’s charming Main Street, adding to the allure.

Fox Winery

Learn to make wine and buy your own wine-making supplies, or simply relax and sip a glass of wine or in-house brewed beer in the 1860s renovated tasting room in Galion. Step outside to the open-air patio or bring your friends and kick back in the new lounge area.

Black Fork Brewing

Richland County’s newest brewery is a destination for more than just a frosty pint — though that’s reason enough to visit. Order up a piping hot pie from the on-site Mama’s Pizza to pair with a house brew, then find a spot to kick back on the massive wraparound porch.

Still Thirsty?

Enjoy a nightcap at The Spirit Room speakeasy at The Phoenix Brewing Company.
