Johnny Appleseed Historic Byway Auto Tour- Brochure pickup Charles Mill Lake Park

Pleasant Hill or Charles Mill Lake Offices: Pick up your brochure/map and take a self-guided auto tour of the Byway, approximately 16 miles on State Route 39 and 603. Johnny Appleseed Chapman was an American folk hero who is best known for his contribution to the propagation of apple trees in the United States. He was born John Chapman in 1774 and traveled extensively throughout the Midwest, planting apple trees wherever he went. He was a pioneer of sustainable agriculture and is remembered fondly as a symbol of self-sufficiency and resourcefulness. His legacy lives on today through the many apple orchards that still bear his name.
