“Differentiating Literacy Learning Through Storytelling” with Sherry Norfolk

October 7 @ 4:30 pm - 7:00 pm

Free

The Storyteller’s Toolbox workshop, led by award-winning teaching artist Sherry Norfolk, helps PreK–5 educators use storytelling to engage diverse learners. Participants will explore a simple story pattern and scaffolded experiences that support students in achieving their learning goals in self-contained and inclusive classrooms.

Educators will learn to use vocal variation, emotions, and sound effects to bring stories to life, making lessons more engaging and accessible for all learners. Storytelling is a flexible strategy that fosters creativity, comprehension, and communication skills in young students.

This workshop is part of the Kennedy Center’s Partners in Education program, presented in collaboration with the Mansfield Art Center and Mansfield City Schools. Teachers will gain practical storytelling techniques to enhance classroom engagement while earning contact hours toward Continuing Education Credits (CEUs).

Open to all area educators and administrators, this professional development opportunity provides dynamic, hands-on strategies to integrate storytelling into everyday teaching. Don’t miss this chance to learn from an internationally recognized expert in arts education!
