Franz Schubert’s German song-cycle, Die Winterreise, dramatized
The world has crumbled into apocalyptic environmental decline. One man walks through the destruction trying to plant a tree he has shielded, lamenting his lost beloved world, eventually sliding into either madness, or death. this, the most haunting and beautiful of Shubert’s song-cycles, is a masterpiece of the genre.
Bass, Andrew Potter, has a continent spanning singing career as an opera singer and recitalist. Pianist, Eric Trudel, has accompanied the likes of Pavarotti and Placido Domingo and tours the world as a piano soloist. His last was a tour of Japan. They were last at the Playhouse for Mid-Ohio Civic Opera’s production of Bluebeard’s Castle, in January 2020.
