8+ mile Woods & Prairie Hike
August 24, 2019 @ 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Walk the northern section of the Clear Fork Valley Scenic Trail (CFVST) with us! We’ll visit Hemlock Falls, the Clear Fork River, three prairies, and a new section of trail, just to name a few of the sights.
This FREE event is open to the public. Please arrive by 4pm, as the camp gates will be closed once the walk begins. Or save gas and RIDE SHARE: meet at 3:15 INSIDE McDonalds on Hanley Road.
We will walk 8+ miles in groups at a moderate fitness pace. After the walk, we’ll stay at the FCC camp for a potluck picnic. You can leave your cooler in the car while we are walking, since we’ll be parking and picnicking in the same location.
Thank you to the First Congregational Church for offering the use of their Hemlock Falls church camp as our meet up location (see directions below).
Bring your water jug, bug spray, hat, etc. for the walk, plus a potluck dish for the picnic. Prepare for the weather and wear shoes suitable for uneven surfaces. Light rain won’t stop us, but in case of severe weather, check this event page for updates.
TYPE: Walking in woods and prairies, on foot paths with uneven surfaces | PACE: Moderate fitness pace (2-3 mph) | TERRAIN: The trail is hilly with small streams to cross and possible trip hazards | DIFFICULTY: Moderate | DISTANCE: 8+ miles | TIME: About 3 hours (plus optional picnic afterwards)
Directions: Meet at the First Congregational Church Camp on Bunkerhill North Road, Worthington Twp. (.9 mile south of S.R. 95). A hiking sign will be posted at the entrance. Ride sharing is encouraged!
About the TRAIL: Located in southern Richland County, the CFVST is a hiking trail that winds through 600 acres of nature preserves. See the trail map linked to this event.
Watch our event page, for more walks. We’re planning another hike to cover the entire Southern section of the CFVST.
