The end of summer and the living is easy….

Late August… just perfect for lazy, hazy outdoor activities

As we recover from the hottest summer on record, it’s time to slow the pace a bit, and engage in some gentler outdoor activity. Camps, family vacations, and public pools have wound to a close, and now, what to do to keep the kids engaged, as everyone transitions into that back to school mindset? It’s possible to savor the warm weather and sunshine, hang loose, and enjoy the remaining days of summer in simple, laid back ways.

Equestrian Valley Farm is a historic farm, in the heart of picturesque Mohican country. Noted for their riding trails through rolling hills and cool forests, their tag line, “Come and enjoy a ride on the best herd of horses in Buckeye Country”, can be attested to by satisfied customers. Equestrian Valley has the finest, well-trained horses, and caters to all age groups, offering the perfect fit of horse and rider to suit every riding level. Trail rides last over an hour, and leisurely wind through peaceful and scenic landscape, allowing time to take in the wildlife and the natural environment. Located just off I-71 and SR 39, it’s easy to find. They also cater to most any group; family outings, birthday parties, Scout troops and more, and can accommodate up to 18 riders per session. Afterwards, you can enjoy a leisurely picnic lunch on their well-maintained grounds. Call ahead to book your happy trails experience.

Loudonville Canoe Livery is also an idyllic place to spend a casual day chilling out as you float, paddle or row your way down the sleepy Mohican River. Both a scenic and soul soothing adventure, you’ll find yourself transported back to the time of unspoiled landscape and natural sounds. Pick the vessel of your choice too. The livery offers canoes, kayaks, tubes, or even rafts, to satisfy the most authentic Huck Finn types. The length of your trip is in your control as well. You can select river trips just a half an hour. Or, even seven days if you’re feeling a longing to escape the modern world for longer. Located in downtown Loudonville, the livery can be found next to the bridge at St. Rt. 39 and Main Street. All that fresh air and floating can make for some hungry, eager beavers afterwards. The River Room, next to the livery, has pizzas, finger foods, traditional hot dogs and Coney’s; a young food connoisseur’s menu of choice! Spirits are available for the adults too.

Kelly’s Driving Range on Main Street in Mansfield, is a great place for the entire family to spend a few hours of warm weather fun, even after school. With an 18 hole, putt-putt golf course, driving range, and Dari-Bar, at your service, you can easily spend a leisurely afternoon soaking up the sunshine. You’re guaranteed to have a great time and work up a hunger after all that concentration and swinging. The shaded seating area at the Dari Bar is a welcome respite for relaxing over one of their ice cream delicacies and burgers with lots of topping options.
