(LUCAS) – Jewels of Healing will be combining with Hostelling International Malabar Farm to offer a full weekend of alternative healing workshops and explorations of the haunts of Malabar Farm State Park. The program, taking place October 6 and 7, is entitled “Shadows & Light: A Haunted Reiki Weekend.” Guests will stay overnight and have classes at the Malabar Farm Hostel as well as explore the grounds of the historical estate.
The classes will be led by certified Reiki master teacher Julie McPeek. Reiki is an alternative energy-based therapy related to acupuncture, but without invasive techniques. According to the International Center for Reiki Training, “Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and malady. It works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.”
The classes will focus on energy attunements and attaining certifications in Reiki I and Reiki II levels. Three to four meals will be included, one at the acclaimed Malabar Farm Restaurant. A three to four hour Ghost Haunt tour will be offered Saturday evening, including a late night tour of the Big House mansion of Malabar Farm’s founder, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author and conservationist, Louis Bromfield. Noted Ohio playwright Mark Sebastian Jordan will also talk during the program about his personal experiences with the paranormal at Malabar Farm, including the infamous haunting of the area by the murderous Ceely Rose, who poisoned her entire family there in 1896. Jordan is author of the play Ceely being performed this fall at the park.
The program begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 6, and concludes Sunday, Oct. 7, and 6 p.m. Participants will stay overnight in shared dormitory-style accommodations at the Malabar Farm Hostel, 3954 Bromfield Rd., Lucas, Ohio. Class size is limited to 15 people and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. The total cost for this weekend retreat is $375 and must be paid in advance.
