Mayor Tim Theaker is pleased to announce that the National Arbor Day Foundation has named the City of Mansfield a “Tree City USA” for the 20th consecutive year. To receive this award, a community and its Shade Tree Commission must demonstrate a commitment to implementing a sound urban forestry policy.
The City of Mansfield Shade Tree Commission has chosen to celebrate our 20 years of being designated as a Tree City USA, with a very special Arbor Day Celebration at the Ohio State Reformatory (OSR). The City of Mansfield Shade Tree Commission was joined by OSR Board members, including Board President Nancy Darby, Executive Director Paul Smith, and representatives of the Convention & Visitors Bureau, Lee Tasseff and Jodie Snavely, as a White Oak was planted commemorating the Shawshank Trail and the filming of the Shawshank Redemption in Mansfield, Ohio 20 years ago.
The planting of the White Oak, generously donated by Alta Florist and Greenhouse, Inc.was Friday, April 24, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. This is the first of two projects planned by the Shade Tree Commission to support and encourage the citizens of Mansfield to celebrate Arbor Day and beautification efforts in Mansfield.
