Spring in Mansfield & Richland County brings birds chirping, trees turn vibrant green, and the itch to get out and explore is at an all-time high. Here is your guide for a quiet, peaceful weekend in Mid-Ohio.
Shop & Stroll
Spring also means an abundance of farmers’ markets and shopping opportunities. Stop by Alta Florist & Greenhouse and wander through a greenhouse (or two) filled with vibrant plants and seasonal flowers. Alta is a local greenhouse that has the largest selection of house plants in the area. Beyond plants, they offer garden decorations, colorful pottery, and wind chimes.
The Bellville Farmers Market takes place the last Saturday of the month, April through October. You’ll find homegrown produce, plants, and cottage products.
Spend time at Kingwood Center Gardens exploring the historic grounds, touring the 1920s-era mansion, and browsing the gift shop and greenhouse.
Eat
Worked up an appetite? Head to Black Dog Tavern at Deer Ridge Golf Club and enjoy dinner and drinks with a stunning view of the area’s public golf course on the largest patio in the area. You could also play a quick round of 9 holes. Looking for a local vintage supper club? Try Oak Park Tavern & Restaurant; a local dinner spot operating since the 1940s! They are known for their Lake Erie yellow perch and old-school ice cream drinks. Try the Pink Squirrel!
Sip
As the night “wines” down, explore one of our wineries on the regional Wine & Ale Trail. Cypress Hill Winery, located in Hudson & Essex, is a boutique winery that serves locally crafted wines. You can also enjoy a beer brewed right here in Mansfield, served inside a former mortuary at the Phoenix Brewing Company just down the street from Cypress Hill Winery.
Stay
Start by finding the right place to stay for your weekend away. If you are looking for a cabin experience in the southern part of Richland County, look into The Babble Brook Lodge in Butler or the Deluxe Log Cabins at Pleasant Hill Lake Park. Both offer a short drive to the trails at Malabar Farm State Park and Mohican State Park. If you are looking for an outdoor adventure, bring your bike and join the Mohican Malabar Bike Club. They have many group rides throughout the year on the 23-mile loop through the Mohican State Forest.
You can also stay at a local hotel like the Holiday Inn Express and Suites in Ontario. It is located just off Route 30, making it easy to explore the nearby communities. Find more lodging options on our website.
