Spring in Mansfield: A Gen Z Guide

Hey, it’s Natalie – your local Gen Z guide to all things Richland County. Spring has officially sprung, and you can feel it in the air. Around here, that usually means people are walking up and down Main Street in downtown Mansfield wearing jeans and a hoodie – it’s our unofficial sign that winter is finally over.

Speaking of downtown, one of my favorite signs of spring is the fresh new displays at Reserve Care Thrift Store. Their mannequins are decked out in weather-appropriate outfits, and it’s nearly impossible not to wander in. You might walk out with the perfect dress for a spring wedding, a vintage teacup set (am I the only one obsessed with those?), or a killer bag that makes people say, “Wait, you found that where?” The best part – you’re supporting Hospice of Western Reserve and snagging unique finds that feel like treasure. Keep an eye out for their daily deals; you never know what you’ll score.

While you’re exploring downtown, stop in at one of Mansfield’s many local eateries. Hamilton’s on Main serves up pizza by the slice, and for my gluten-free friends,
you’re safe here! Or grab lunch at an old-school diner, Coney Island Diner, where coney’s, their famous pea salad, and conversation are always on the menu. Not in the mood for food? Grab a boba or matcha (my current obsession) from the 101 Tea Company it’s a local favorite.

If you’re up for exploring beyond downtown, take a little road trip north. The greenhouses in Shiloh and Plymouth come alive this time of year with color, and it’s the perfect way to spend a sunny afternoon. While you’re up that way, stop by Black Fork Commons in Shelby. It’s a beautiful downtown park that’s perfect for reading, people-watching, or just soaking in the season. Across the street, The Vault Wine Bar serves up some seriously good food. Personally, I am obsessed with their Italian sandwich on a gluten free bun (chef’s kiss). Don’t leave without checking out the old bank vault turned wine cellar – it’s as cool as it sounds.

And because spring in Ohio loves to keep us guessing, I’ve got you covered for rainy days too. Lex Lanes in Lexington is a great spot to bowl, laugh, and hang out with friends. Or check out the second floor of the Buckeye Imagination Museum – yes, adults have fun there too. Challenge your friends to ski ball, pop-a-shot, or even the laser tunnel if you’re feeling competitive.

When the weather cooperates (finally!), you’ll want to get outside. The Richland B&O Trail is one of my favorite ways to do it – 18.4 miles of fresh air and scenic views that pass through five towns in southern Richland County. You can walk it or ride your bike. If you don’t have a bike, Y-Not Cycling & Fitness in Lexington can hook you up with a rental. Bring your friends, your dog (they’ll love Finnegan’s Run Dog Park in Bellville), and make a day of it.

Embrace spring and make the most of these local favorites – from thrift finds to patio dining and everything in between. Don’t forget to tag @DestinationMansfield when you share your adventures.

Your next perfect spring day is waiting – right here in Richland County.
