Summer Like a Gen Z in Mansfield & Richland County

Categories: Blogs and News UncategorizedTags:

Summer in your twenties is kind of funny. One weekend you’re outside “healing your inner child,” the next you’re buying garden décor and texting your friends things like, “Wait… do we need matching patio lanterns?” Somewhere along the way, your ideal summer became a mix of touching grass, eating ice cream and listening to live music.

Luckily, Mansfield and Richland County make it very easy to lean into all of it.

Start your weekend at Malabar Farm State Park, where you take advantage of slowing down for a minute. Take a walk beneath the trees, hike one of the trails, or just sit outside long enough to remember what fresh air feels like after staring at screens all week. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to put your phone away for five seconds and romanticize your life a little. Pack a picnic, visit with the animals, and let yourself reconnect with nature without feeling rushed to be anywhere else.

If you’re spending the weekend with family, this is your chance to become the cool aunt, cool uncle, or favorite older cousin. Take everyone out to the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and watch superbikes or Indy cars fly around the track at speeds that you’ve never seen before. Kids under 12 get in for free with an adult! Visit the Mansfield Speedway for dirt track racing, where things get loud, chaotic, and wildly entertaining in the best way possible. Even if you don’t know every rule, it’s impossible not to get caught up in the energy once the engines start roaring. Two kids under 10 get in for free with an adult.

For a slower afternoon, stop by Walker Flower Farm and pick up a fresh bouquet on one of their u-pick days. Stepping out on the farm means you will be greeted with beautiful flowers in full bloom. Maybe it’s for your friend’s bridal shower, maybe it’s for a baby shower, or maybe it’s simply because you deserve fresh flowers on your kitchen counter too. Summer flowers have a way of making ordinary days feel a little softer and more intentional.

Then fully embrace the fact that adulthood somehow turned outdoor décor into an actual personality trait and wander through Arbor Creek Garden & Florals. One minute you’re casually browsing and the next you’re holding a decorative frog statue thinking, “This would actually look amazing near the zinnias I planted.” It happens to all of us eventually.

As the sun starts to set, gather your friends, family, and lawn chairs for the Final Friday Concert Series in the Brickyard. Free live music, warm summer air, the open-air brick yard, people dancing, food trucks and everyone staying out a little later than planned. It’s one of those simple summer nights that ends up becoming your favorite memory of the season. It’s basically a music festival in the heart of downtown Mansfield.  Before the show, grab dinner and drinks at City Grille so you can head into the evening already in a good mood.

If you’re looking for more live music or a fun atmosphere, check out MVP’s Sports Bar & Grille. Find a spot on the patio, order family recipe pasta dishes, listen to music, and let the night stretch out a little longer while everyone talks about absolutely nothing important.

Of course, no summer weekend is complete without ice cream. Stop at Dairy Land and grab a Smores Ice Cream Coffee (a fudge ice cream coffee with marshmallow drizzle topped with graham cracker pieces) or Scoops Frozen Treats for an Old-Fashioned Banana Split before heading home. Because honestly, if summer had an official flavor, it would probably taste like melting soft serve on a humid Ohio evening.

This summer, let yourself slow down, laugh a little more, and lean into the moments that make the season memorable. Mansfield and Richland County are full of places that help you do exactly that. Don’t forget to tag @DestinationMansfield when posting your summer adventures.
