As we emerge from the holiday season, look forward to a calendar full of opportunities for self-improvement, new experiences, and fun events and happenings for winter in Mansfield, Ohio.

The Buckeye Imagination Museum isn’t just for kids. Make plans to stop on January 20th from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. for A Night at the Museum, a fun time for adults to play during the Cabin Fever Party. Participate in the six person air hockey table, or try out the rock wall that rotates as you climb.

Explore Richland County’s Wine & Ale Trail and discover local history through landmarks like a vintage bank vault, a former mortuary, and a blueberry plantation. Speaking of wine, have you considered reserving a seat for the next Prohibition at the Caverns? Enjoy an 8-course fine dining experience in the historic Caverns located at Hudson & Essex for an unparalleled dining experience.

Learn Something New

Learn about the effect of the upcoming solar eclipse on the local flora and fauna with the Richland Soil and Water Conservation District while making a solar eclipse suncatcher (Jan. 9th) in preparation for the event.

The Mansfield Art Center offers a variety of classes that include a year-long Stained Glass Nativity set that you’ll be proud to display and a glass fusion garden mushroom (Jan. 24).

AR Workshop Ontario offers a variety of classes and private events where you can make home decor items while learning new skills. Check out the Walk-in Craft Bar for a break from the mid-winter doldrums.

Kingwood Center offers a variety of classes. This month, they offer Houseplants 101- Bromeliads (Jan. 11) where participants will learn how to incorporate Bromeliads into their collection and how to care for them. On Jan. 25th you can learn about painting winter landscapes– an event for all ages.

The Phoenix offers its monthly round of Taproom Trivia (Jan.16) for those who want to stay sharp, or learn something new, during the winter.

Let’s Get Physical!

Slow down, meditate, and focus on posture and breathing techniques through the centering practice of Hatha Yoga every Tuesday at Kingwood Center. The Ohio Bird Sanctuary offers yoga every Wednesday. If yoga is not your speed, try out the weekly wellness walks at Kingwood Center. Enjoy the beauty of the gardens in the still of the winter and meet new people.

Challenge yourself through the weekly parkrun Mansfield 5K . This free, non-competitive timed event welcomes runners or walkers of all skill levels to meet every Saturday for fun or as part of your training program.

Have you considered competitive sports? Join a competitive volleyball team (Tuesday nights), adult dodgeball (Wednesday nights) or a recreational volleyball team (Thursday nights). Games are held at the Dewald Community Center of the Salvation Army and other Mansfield locations as needed. Looking to join an intermural sport with your co-workers? Theater, Art & Live Music

Fun Home: the Musical will be held at the Renaissance Theatre during the final two weekends of the month. The play is told through the eyes of graphic novelist Alison, after the death of her father, and unpacks her life growing up in the family funeral home as she sees and begins to understand her parents through grown-up eyes.

Collin Raye, a County Artist, will be hitting the stage at the Renaissance Theatre on January 6. He will be performing hit songs like Love, Me,” “In This Life,” “Not That Different,” and “If I Were You.” As well as very energizing-rock songs like “My Kind of Girl,” “That’s My Story,” “I Can Still Feel You,” and “I Want You Bad.”

Disney’s Frozen Jr takes the stage at the Mansfield Playhouse (Jan. 26 & 27). Based on the 2018 Broadway musical, and brings Elsa, Anna, and the magical land of Arendelle to life, onstage.

Fun for the Family

Attend the Winter Wonderland hike at Kingwood Center then warm up with a craft and story (Jan. 7). Pre-registration is required.
