“Breaking Boundaries Through Music: Creative Connections Across the Curriculum” with PROJECT Trio

FREE ARTS INTEGRATION PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FOR TEACHERS

The Mansfield Partners in Education Team, composed of the Renaissance Performing Arts Association, the Mansfield Art Center, and Mansfield City Schools, will host a one-day professional development workshop on arts integration for educators and administrators on Thursday, October 15, 2025, at the Renaissance Theatre. The workshop is an in-person session, and will be led by guest teaching artists, PROJECT Trio. The registration fee of $125 for the workshop has been covered for all participants through the generous support of Charles P. Hahn, CFP, Cleveland Financial Group.  Additional support for this program is provided by the Ohio Arts Council, Meijer, Inc., and through a grant from the Siebert Arts Fund of the Richland County Foundation.

The one and one-half hour interactive professional development workshop provides K–12 educators with practical strategies for incorporating music and the arts into classroom instruction. Led by members of PROJECT Trio—Greg Pattillo (flute), Peter Seymour (double bass), and Daniel Berkey (saxophone)—the workshop explores the connections between classical music, jazz, hip-hop, world music, improvisation, rhythm, movement, and storytelling.

PROJECT Trio’s professional development workshop explores creativity, improvisation, and arts integration through accessible, hands-on activities that teachers can bring directly into their classrooms. Using music as a jumping-off point, the workshop gives educators practical tools for encouraging collaboration, communication, creative thinking, and student engagement across a variety of subjects and grade levels. The workshop is designed for educators in all disciplines and does not require previous musical training or experience.

The professional development session will be presented from 4:30 to 6:00 pm. Following the workshop, educators are invited to relax, enjoy pizza and beverages, and experience a special performance by PROJECT Trio created just for our teacher audience, and held in the Ren’s Ghostlight Lounge. This intimate educator performance will offer a chance to hear the Trio’s incredible musicianship up close and experience the genre-blending energy that makes their performances so engaging for audiences of all ages. 

The teacher and administrator PD experience is enhanced by PROJECT Trio’s presence in the community for the Renaissance’s Operation Bridge Building/Carnegie Hall Link Up education concerts. Participants will have the opportunity to connect the instructional strategies explored during the workshop with the artists’ work with local students. Educators may further extend their learning by attending the symphony concert featuring PROJECT Trio later that week, experiencing firsthand how the ensemble applies its innovative, genre-blending approach in a professional performance setting.
