Author Mindy McGinnis Presents: Under this Red Rock

The author discusses her research for writing Under This Red Rock, a murder mystery set in the cavern systems of Ohio that explores themes of mental illness, examining the often misunderstood behavior patterns of those who struggle. The program is highly focused on erasing the stigma of mental illness, and the importance of speaking out about mental health, as the author shares her own battles with depression and anxiety, as well as how they informed her process while working on the novel. A ninth-generation farmer, Mindy attributes much of her character to growing up on an Ohio farm, learning the value of physical labor, and the harshness of the natural world early in life. Much of her writing reflects small-town living and aspects of rural poverty.
