14th Annual Big Sit – Gorman Nature Center (New Location)
Come join us for this ALL-DAY bird counting event held at Gorman Nature Center! This is the Park District’s 14th annual Big Sit and the entire day (Saturday, October 10th) will be spent counting birds from the top of the hill at Gorman Nature Center! Visitors may come and go as they please throughout the day. Binoculars and lawn chairs are recommended but are not required to participate in this event. Feel free to stop by for an hour or two, bring something to snack on, and learn about the birds that are found at the park! RCPD Natural Resources Technician Luke Donahue, will be counting birds from 3:00am-9:00pm, so be sure to come and keep him company! The counting ‘circle’ will be located in a NEW LOCATION this year, the top of the hill up from the nature center. Signs will be posted to lead you to the new spot. Questions? The Big Sit tradition was started by the New Haven Bird Club in 1992, and participants are required to count all the birds they see or hear from a 17-foot diameter circle with a 24-hour time limit.
